You Know You're A Mommy When...

I wanted to share just a few things I have realized about me as well as noticed about other mommies since becoming one myself.

You know you are a mommy when -

*you catch yourself absentmindedly humming Veggie Tales, Elmo, The Wiggles, or Baby Einstein songs during everyday tasks.

*you usually don't get quite long enough in the shower to shave your legs when you want or need to.

*you start noticing stains on the back of and shoulders of your clothing that you know you didn't make.

*it doesn't phase you in the least to sit and stare at the contents of a poopy diaper wondering if that color and/or consistency is normal.

*you find it is entirely possible to do just about anything with one hand.

*you have ever fallen asleep while using your breastpump, or imagined the sounds it makes are actually its way of "talking" to you.

*instead of thinking "Oh, if that were MY child..." when a child is throwing a fit in the middle of a store, you suddenly wonder if that WILL be your child.

*you become the Queen and master of goofy faces and silly noises for the sole purpose of getting to see that sweet smile or hear that contaigous laugh.

*your "birthday wants" suddenly shift from money, clothes or shoes to homemade baby food cookbooks and babysitting offers.

*you finally understand the phrase, "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you," and are usually tearful long after your sleeping child has forgotten about his/her shots.

*you find that it is entirely possible to function on little or no sleep.

*you find bodily functions cute or funny.

*you have more bags of breastmilk in your freezer than food items.

*you find that the big strong man you married is really just a big old softy that likes to blow raspberries on naked bellies at diaper time, and you fall in love with him all over again watching him rock your baby to sleep.

*you can think of two or more things I could and should have added to this list.

**On a side note, for those who read and follow here and on Kamden's blog, would it be easier for you if I were to combine the two into one? Let me know in the comments.

  1. These are all so true, especially the "humming Veggie Tales, Elmo, etc. while doing everyday tasks." I have forgotten what kind of music I like! Hilarious!
