13 week follow up and some Kamden funnies 1/6/2010
2 and a half weeks after the initial worry from not being able to find the heartbeat with the doppler, we found ourselves back in the waiting room of Dr. S. office.
Kamden was anxious to get down and run around to meet everyone, but after a woman with a quite short haircut, polo shirt and khaki pants sat down next to he and Jeff, everything changed. He had been looking at pictures on Jeff's phone, but suddenly turned, pointed at this woman and loudly and excitedly exclaimed to the very full waiting room, "THAT'S A BOY!!!!" Now, had this happened once, I would have been fine...but we're talking for the better part of 15-20 minutes. Loudly. And on repeat. Finally (and thank God, kindly), she told him, "No, I'm a girl. See, I'm wearing earrings. And girls can have short haircuts too." Well, it didn't help, BUT it gave everyone in the waiting room a good chuckle.
When we got back to the exam room, the nurse immediately followed us in and began checking for the heartbeat. After a few tense seconds, she found it! It was such a beautiful sound - nice and strong at 150bpm. Kamden was thrilled to hear "Baby Scooter" (although in the video, you'll hear him say "Baby Konner") and was sad when they were finished listening.
While we waited to see the doctor, Kamden decided to explore the room. He stopped suddenly when he came across a poster of the cross section of the uterus and just stared at it for a few minutes. I was about to explain it to him, but didn't need to when he suddenly exclaimed, "That's a buffalo!!!" After looking at it from his angle, I have to admit I agree.
Dr. S. was pleased with my blood pressures and told me to continue treating them as I have been and the only thing we need to work on at all is fasting blood glucose readings. One day later, my glucose was even BETTER than the target he'd given me! Praise the Lord!!!!
