Time to Begin Again
It has been nine months since I took the time to write here, and I regret that. Writing here has always been cathartic for me. There's no excuse. I got distracted by and busy with life and just didn't make time to do it anymore. After going back and reading some of my old posts, I realized how much I was actually able to get out and sort out just by writing. That being said, tonight will be a general update and then I'll get into a routine with it all again.
Since the last time I wrote, there have been NUMEROUS changes in our lives.
Since the last time I wrote, there have been NUMEROUS changes in our lives.
- Kamden was accepted into a specialized autism program at another school in our district and was moved to attend there at the start of the spring semester last school year. Within the first three weeks of attending, he was fully potty trained, was excelling in his classes and was showing more independence than I have ever seen him have.
- We moved out of my parents' home and into our own place. I was lucky enough to find an apartment within just a few blocks of his new school. It's quiet, gated, and to Kamden's great excitement, it has a pool! It's been a major adjustment as I did not live on my own prior to being married and have been with my parents since my divorce in 2015, but it's been wonderful for us.
- I was hired on by CVS Pharmacy as a certified pharmacy technician in December, and since then have been promoted to inventory specialist. I love the job and the connections I have been able to make with people in the community. I can't wait to see what is to come!
- I decided to change majors...again. I won't be attending classes until next year, but with a biology degree under my belt, I have almost all of the prerequisites needed for admittance to the nursing program. I have a few things I need to iron out that will be done over the next few months, but if all goes according to plan, I'll be entering nursing school next fall semester.
- We got new information about Kamden's overall diagnosis. I'll save the details for another post, as it all gets quite involved and lengthy, but the condensed version is that his autism has a cause. That cause is partial agenesis of the corpus callosum. This has changed how he is worked with at school, but other therapies (occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy) are all still very much needed and are being implemented again. We are attending 5 therapies outside of school each week, and he is also attending speech and occupational therapy in his school setting. The school has also started a weekly behavioral psychology appointment where he is working on sorting out and expressing feelings, thoughts and ideas.
Life is still very overwhelming in many ways, but we are doing really, really well. The support system we have in place is so helpful and so beneficial. I don't know what we'd do without the help and support of friends, family and my boyfriend. Without me successfully being cloned, there's no way we'd make it in our day to day, and I am extremely grateful for everything that they do to help us.
I am already glad that I'm back here writing. I can't wait to write more. I hope you're ready to read.
