The Latest and Greatest
There hasn't really been a whole lot of exciting things happening around our part of the world, but there have been some productive advancements for Jeff and I and some new things for Kamden, so I definitely wanted to update for those of you who read here.
Jeff's Life: We went to SEVERAL appointments at the VA last week with the biggest and most important being with the Vocational Rehab officer. After a lot of thought, prayer and long discussions, Jeff has decided to go back to school. He is planning to get a two-year degree as a physical therapy assistant. This would enable him to go into massage therapy, chiropractics, or physical therapy to work. He's already been given a head's up that there is an extensive program at the VA that he could possibly work for after he gets his degree. Thanks to the GI Bill, we will be getting housing allowance and will also be able to file for unemployment while he's in school. He will be able to have the job search waived so long as he's enrolled in school and will also be able to get his disability reinstated. The overall estimate is that he'll be paid about $3300 a month to go to school. What a fantastic opportunity! He bought a 1989 Jeep Wrangler yesterday. It's completely decked out military style. We can't wait to take the top off and take it out to Palo Duro Canyon!
Tara's Life: I am still (SLOWLY) doing correspondence courses to have a certification as a medical office assistant. It could definitely come in handy in this area and if I go into ANY type of medical profession it could help out. I'm looking into becoming a notary as well. I can make my own "hours" more or less - more like decide how many I want to do in a week - and with the type I'm looking at training to do, I'd make $100 for EACH notary I did. I had a follow up on my knee Wednesday. The surgery sites have healed well, but I'm still having a lot of pain that we had hoped would stop after the procedure I had done. I will be starting Synvis injections on March 31st and will have to have one a week for three weeks. The hope is that it will help to reconstruct lost cartilage. From all I have read, the standard is for the pain to be minimal or stopped for 6-8 months. If the shots do not help significantly then the next step for me will me a knee-cap replacement. My doctor is very reluctant to do that procedure given my age, but he said it is a very real possibility.
Kamden's Life: Where to even begin??? People tend to be shocked when they ask his age and we tell them he'll be two next month. The last time I counted he was close to 100 individual words and pretty regularly speaks full sentences now. He is a super sweet and cuddly boy (Please, God, let him stay that way!) and is quite the ham. He loves to dance, is crazy about music in general, and is a book fanatic. It doesn't matter WHAT the book is, so long as it has pages, he's "reading" it. I feel like I've really slacked off since Jeff got home from Iraq with regard to keeping up the pictures of Kamden, but now that we are having nice, warm weather and will be spending more time outside, we should have plenty to share here. For now, I'll share some of the most recent from our family session last month.
