When the Cat's Away, the Mice Will...
WORK LIKE THEY'VE NEVER WORKED BEFORE. LOL
That's right. I've got to get in gear and get our little family organized and ready to go on several different fronts. I figure I can post it here so that I daily see it as my reminder, but also so that all you loverly peeps can help keep me on track. Ti's amazing what kind of motivation having your nine year old niece take a look at your house and say, "This place is a MESS!" can be for a person.
First and foremost, I need to get myself into a DAILY habit of spending time in the word and in prayer with God. I know from past experience that it will help my days to go so much smoother and in general my life will be better off by seeking God's will and way first instead of as a last resort when I get into a sticky situation.
Second, I desperately need to get this house in order. Not just cleaned. Really, my house is not "dirty". Rather, and maybe worse than being dirty, it is full of STUFF. I'm sure that there is plenty mixed in that we truly do need, but I KNOW there are things that we don't need or think we need but will likely never use that need to be gone through and either donated or sold before Jeff's deployment gets right upon us so that there is less to be stored while I am in Texas and in turn less to move when Jeff returns from Iraq. Not to mention, the extra cash that selling some things on ebay and/or Craig's List could bring would be wonderful!
Third, I need to get into a better habit of going out of my way to save this family money. I am notoriously bad about "being tired" and saying "let's just eat out tonight, but ONLY tonight" and saying it too many times in one week. With my diabetes and borderline high blood pressure and Jeff's family history of heart disease, we DEFINITELY should be eating at home more and a lot more healthfully than we do now. While I know it IS a family choice and decision, as the homemaker, I feel like the majority of the responsibility falls to me. (I mainly base that decision on that I am the main one to do grocery shopping, cook the meals (although Jeff is an excellent chef), and watch our health information as the tests come in.)
Fourth, I need to grab the bull by the horns and get us out of debt. Again, this is a family thing and family responsibility, but I am the one most likely to step in and work out things like a family budget, debt consolidation, saying "No" to major wants that we definitely don't NEED at the time, etc. While I hate to play the bad guy, lol I tend to do it well. I've put off working with a debt consolidation company purely because of my own pride and all it's done is hurt our credit more and more. I know that God never intended for his children to live in bondage to money or be chained by their finances so we are making a step out of our comfort zone and taking the steps we need to in order to change our financial future.
ATP (Answer To Prayer): I got an email from Jeff on Sunday. He emailed me from his phone in between "search and seizure" mock ups to let me know he passed his PT test and his paperwork has been sent in for his promotion from Specialist to Sargent. I am SO proud of him. He's had the points to promote for YEARS, but it takes a recommendation from a superior, plus additional qualifying factors and they all finally fell into place during this year's annual training. He still has about 9 days left of training, but thank God he will be home in time for our 2 year anniversary.
