Sick of sickness

The final verdict? Flu Type A, Flu Type B, and strep throat. I was also told he was contagious for 3-5 days and would only be able to return to school after 24 hours of no fever. We just got his report card on Wednesday and were told that he has missed 16 days this year. All of those days were for illness. Every. Single. One. Now we are looking at 2-4 school days this week. I know all I can do is get his assignments and get him back in as soon as possible, but this having been the second year in a row to be so high in absences is discouraging.
I got copies of his records from the urgent care to take when we see his new pediatrician next week, and what I saw was somewhat frightening. We have had one visit a month (two in September) since August of last year. In that time, he has had the following: Strep 5x, Tonsillitis 1x, Flu A and B 4x, and an upper respiratory infection once as a result of the flu. We had been going to a different urgent care prior to August, and while I do not have those records yet, I do remember him being sick at least every 6 weeks going back to May of 2015. So now, on top of the need for an MRI to see if he's in need of a shunt, there is a very real possibility of having to have him tested for autoimmune disease. He does have an appointment scheduled to see an ENT next month, but as a new patient that was the soonest available and we've been on the cancellation wait list for about 3 months. While a tonsillectomy might take care of the majority of the strep issues, particularly if he is a carrier, it doesn't explain the recurrent flu.
That all being said, I would greatly covet your prayers for wisdom and guidance as to how to approach this situation and things that I can be doing to help him stay healthy. We are starting our journey with essential oils as well as some diet adaptations to see if nutrition is the culprit, but aside from that, I'm running really, really low on ideas.
God, help us.
