Diabetes is a pain in the....fingers.
Okay, you are all my witnesses.
I, Tara Koopman, being of mostly sound mind and body, do solemnly swear that from this day forward I will modify my diabetic care to create the most optimum life for myself, my family and my future children. I will not eat what I want just because I can "take a shot for it" and I will check my blood sugars as directed and take injections as directed. My life is my responsibility and expecting people to feel sorry for me because I am diabetic is stupid and unreasonable. I will stop using diabetes as a crutch or a tool to manipulate myself into believing I can't do things or to manipulate others into coddling me. From today (8/30/2011) things have to be, and will be different.
A shockingly high blood sugar level combined with the news that the nephew of a dear friend had to lose part of his foot do amputation due to uncontrolled diabetes has given me a wake up call.
I would ask that if you read this, and you are willing to keep me accountable, that you would "sign it" by leaving a comment. You may do so anonymously if you don't have an account to sign in with for commenting, but I am really serious about needing the accountability. Right now, because of how I grieve for whatever reason, I can only do things FOR other people. So really, if you sign and I know you want updates and want to know that I'm taking care of myself, I'm essentially doing it FOR you until I want to do it for me.

I don't know if I can hold you accountable from colorado, but I am rooting for your success!

I wish you the best. Probably mentioned this before, but John's mom's diabetes got under control by stocking the house with only food with net carbs (total carbs minus fiber) of 15 or less. If she planned to cheat for a special occasion, she walked before and after cheating. She lost 75 pounds and went from meds 3x a day to only when cheating. It was amazing to see how much that diet improved her life! Again, I wish you the best!
